There's Never Been a Better Time to Start Your Egg Donor Search

The first successful egg donation happened in 1983 -- resulting in a live birth in February of 1984. Since then, over 50,000 babies have been born because of donor eggs. Now, more than ever before, the possibility of having a family is available to everyone regardless of your circumstances.

Whether it's a gay couple or a couple struggling with infertility, there has never been a better time to start your egg donor search.

Be Biologically Bonded

Historically, the only option available for gay couples or infertile couples to have a family was to adopt. And while we love the choice of adoption, we understand that many parents want to be biologically related to their children. There is no shame in wanting to share the same DNA with your child.

We all want to see a resemblance of our partner's smile in our children or recognize similar mannerisms that we had when we were little. Egg donation allows this to happen for all couples.

Avoid Genetic Disorders

As much as we wish we could, we can't guarantee that every baby will be 100% healthy. There are certain disorders and defects that any baby could be born with. But, there are some disorders that we know are genetic. These include Chromosome abnormalities and single-gene defects.

Some of the most common genetic disorders include:

  • Down Syndrome

  • Thalassemia

  • Cystic Fibrosis

  • Tay Sachs Disease

  • Sickle-Cell Anemia

If you know you and your spouse are both carriers of a specific genetic disorder, you may want to consider using an egg donor. Testing through Invitae and Counsyl are great ways to find out what you might be a carrier for.

Uniform-Parentage Act

In 2002, the Uniform Parentage Act was updated to address all forms of assisted reproduction; including egg donation. Section 702 in the UPA states that the donor is not the legal parent of the child. This gives the intended parents complete parental responsibility of the conceived child.

Because of the success of egg donation and favorable laws that have been passed in the United States, intended parents have more rights than ever before.

Best Care Available

Despite rumors that may attest otherwise, the egg donor industry is highly regulated. Fertility medicine falls under Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART). The American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) along with the FDA, has set up guidelines and procedures that contribute to the high success of ART.

Because of the new technology and high industry standards, people come from all over the world to the United States to build their families.
