All About the Eggs: How to Find the Perfect Donor Eggs

Hey! We’re Elevate Egg Agency and it’s nice to meet you.

If you’re here, it probably means you have already been on this baby-making-journey for some time. And now you’ve ended up here looking for an alternative way to build a family.

Whether you’re a gay couple, an older couple, a health-compromised couple, or a maybe you’re not even part of a couple at all -- no matter your situation, we’re happy to have you.

And we are going to help you find the perfect donor eggs.

Realistic Expectations

Finding the perfect egg donor can be emotionally, mentally, and physically taxing for a couple.  That being said, it is important for any intended couple to keep in mind that no one is practically perfect in every way -- except for Mary Poppins, of course.

You will need to decide what is most important such as:

  • Do you want the child to resemble you and your partner?

  • Is skin color, eye color, and hair color important?

  • What sort of personality traits will fit in best with your lifestyle?

  • Do you want the donor involved in the child’s life?

  • How important is IQ or education?

  • Is height and weight an important factor?

Decide what is most important, then go from there.  But, you can be assured, we will try to get you everything on your checklist.

Physical Traits

Let’s start with physical traits. This is usually what couples first notice about an egg donor. It’s completely normal -- and very understandable --  that intended parents want their child to look like them. Couples will often look for egg donors who resemble themselves. Maybe they have the same coloring or the same build.

Our donor database offers many girls to choose from who all have different physical characteristics. If you and your partner have light eyes, then find a donor who has light eyes as well. Whether you’re looking for a certain type of hair or your mother’s perfect nose, we can help you find them.

Perhaps you are hoping for a basketball player to follow in your footsteps. There’s nothing wrong with finding a tall and athletic donor to increase those chances. Decide what the most important physical traits are and go from there.

Personality Traits and IQ

Think about the personality that will fit in best with your family. If you are a carefree couple who likes to travel, is it really that important that your donor graduated from Harvard Law School?

Look for a donor who you’d like to hang out with. Maybe, someone, you could see being a friend. Find a donor who has personality traits that you are drawn to.  Do you have similar interests? Does she sound interesting? Would you want to get to know her better?

Read the donor’s profile, see what she has to say and then trust your gut feeling. You’ll soon be able to tell which donors would be a good fit and which donors who wouldn’t.

Medical History and Mental Health

As part of the egg donor application process, egg donors are asked for an extensive medical history.  They must be clean of any STDs, be a nonsmoker, and pass a psychological evaluation.

By the time you see them as an option, they have already been thoroughly screened by our agency to make sure they are fit for donation.

That being said, there are some additional health factors you may want to consider.

Genetic testing will need to be done to see if the intended couple and the donor are carriers for any of the same genetic diseases or disorders. If so, this will increase the chances of the baby having some sort of disability.

You may also want to make sure the donor has the same blood type as one of the intended parents. This may make donating blood to your child -- if they ever need it -- easier in the future.

Has the Donor Donated Before?

Some couples prefer to use a donor who has previously donated eggs successfully. This proves that she tolerated the fertility drugs well and was able to provide a good amount of eggs for IVF

However, don’t rule out a first-time donor. A first time donor will have a lower compensation rate and the probability is high that a young donor will provide excellent results even in her first round of donating.

There is no wrong decision, just decide what you and your partner are most comfortable with.

Unknown Vs Known

Now let’s focus on the long-term goals.

There are different contracts that you can enter into with a donor. Some donors like to remain anonymous throughout the entire process.  The agency you work with will not share either party’s contact information at any time. She will donate her eggs, and then the deal is done.

In other cases, some intended parents and donors can decide to have contact. Some choose to have limited interactions with each other through the process, while other couples allow the donor to be an active part of the child’s life. For example, they may decide to let the donor meet the child or share pictures.

This is an extremely personal decision that you and your partner will need to decide together. Again, there is no wrong choice. Just whatever feels right.
